Work > HE STEM Programme South West
Client: University of Bath
Web: www.hestem-sw.org.uk
The National HE Stem Programme works with Universities to widen participation, support innovation in teaching & learning and enhance the skills and knowledge base of undergraduate students and the workforce in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
We were approached by the South West Region of STEM, based at the University of Bath, to design and develop their new website. The new website had to communicate with both an internal University audience as well as a wider business and employer audience.
The website draws content from the various STEM projects (see below for more information) and offers users a variety of useful information, from a Good Practice Guide through to funding opportunities and news form both internal and external sources.
The website was developed on a bespoke build of our Content Management System Artisan, which gives website administrators easy control over all content.
In addition to this information-based website, the brief required a place to be created for cross-university project collaboration between staff. The requirements of this formed what is now their Project Collaboration Tool.
The Project Collaboration Tool offers a private environment for project teams to work, share and communicate on their own HE STEM projects. This includes being able to:
- Create project summaries and milestones
- Comment on other team member's posts
- Upload and share files
- Communicate with other members of their team
- Create and edit private information pages
- Create and edit public information pages that feed into the main HE STEM website
At website launch there were 18 STEM projects utilising the Project Collaboration Tool, each with up to 10 team members. And there are plans for the expansion of this over the next 6 months.
Feedback from staff at the various Universities using the Project Collaboration Tool has been excellent and highlights the value of this much needed tool.

We're really delighted with it - it's great both for promoting our projects externally and for enabling our project teams, who are spread across a wide range of different universities across the SW region, to work collaboratively together. We also really appreciated your responsiveness and tolerance in accommodating our multiple enquiries and requests!
Dr. Frances Laughton, SW Regional Director
