This expertise not only lies in their developmental skills and design flair, but also in their ability to take initial sketches and basic specifications and develop fully functioning applications that cover all aspects of what is required - both foreseen and unforeseen requirements. A joint project between the Department for Children, Schools and Families (formerly Dfes), Cendia and Bath Spa University, we were contracted to research, develop and build a Pocket PC (PPC) based evaluation tool to be used by school children.

Working with Crossways Academy in London where the project was trialed, we developed a web-based, Flash user interface that was designed specifically for a PPC screen and interacted the device's internal text entry functions. The initial functionality that was developed allows students to submit evaluations based on assignments, which a tutor can then mark and feed back to the student. All correspondence happens within the the PPC interface.

The whole tool is database driven and works over a wireless internet network, transferring data between staff and students with realtime updates on each user's device. There is a web-based Content Management Area that gives staff full control over data management, course creation and assigning tutors and students to courses.
