the float office

An introduction.

Founded in 2003, Float is a web design agency based in Bath, who provide clients with clear solutions. Our approach is based around the key principles of user-centered design, meaning that all aspects of a project are approached with the aim of providing the best solution for a project's intended users.

Many clients bring to us a complex set of specifications, others a vague idea of what may be required. What we bring to a project is the experience and expertise to take these guidelines and develop a clear goal, to breakdown what is required into achievable milestones and to provide our clients with a transparent route to achieving their objectives.

Planning.

All projects have an aesthetic requirement, and at Float we pride ourselves in being highly visual designers. However the key to a successful project, irrespective of the requirements, is in laying the foundations correctly. And by foundations we mean just that; the core elements on which everything will be constructed.

In many cases this means defining the information architecture - looking at what content is required, how this should be presented to users and creating an intuitive hierarchy that will allow users to easily navigate to the content they're looking for. Paper-prototyping and wireframe development often follow to allow us to quickly see how a project may come together, with user-testing providing 'real' feedback at an early stage of development.

Design and development.

We have watched and participated in the evolution of the web over recent years, however our approach to design and development has remained the same. Understand your audience, deliver content to them in a way which they will find intuitive and keep things simple.

Everything that we create is developed using web standards, which means that your website or web application will be inline with best practice guidelines, be optimised for search engines and will be accessible to those accessing the content on alternative platforms or with devices such as screen readers.

Our understanding.

We have an excellent understanding of the web and how people engage with websites. With over 10 years experience of working in this industry, we can bring new ideas and solutions to a project that can help our clients exceed any given specification or goals. Our expertise allows us to produce media-rich, highly scalable and dynamic web-based applications that have firm groundings in usability and accessibility.

We'd love to hear from you, so please get in touch if you'd like to discuss a project. Or take some time to look at some of the recent work we've done.
